I BOUGHT A 1940'S FIXER UPPER!

If you follow me on Instagram, you probably saw the announcement I made last week - I bought a 1940’s fixer upper (and I’m so freaking excited)!

(If you missed it, you can find the full house tour in my “home reno” highlight, and a 30-second Instagram Reel version here.)

This was such a gem of a find in a great location, but it definitely needs a ton of work, and I’ll be documenting the whole process right here and over on Instagram.

It’s a single story, 2200 square foot 3 bedroom / 2 bathroom brick house with original hardwood and parquet floors throughout most of the house. I fell in love with the living room immediately (photo above), and the previous owners actually let me keep several antique pieces, including that globe and wingback chair. Other pieces not shown include a stereo record player (in perfect working condition), a retro refrigerator (that I plan to restore), and an entire Mid-Century Modern bedroom set!

The first major project that I want to tackle is the front porch landing (shown in its current condition below). I plan to paint it a light grey and use a stencil I purchased from Etsy to give it the look of concrete tile. Don’t worry - those prison bars and front door are both next on my list. 😉

My planned aesthetic is somewhere between Mid-Century Modern, Art Deco, and Bohemian. In my head, I’m calling it Mid-Deco-Boho, and I’ve been pinning stuff for MONTHS on this Pinterest board. I’d absolutely LOVE to hear what you think! Have you ever tackled a major fixer upper before? Let me know below or come chat with me on Instagram!

Can’t wait to share this journey with y’all!

XO, CHRISTEN
